Hi all.
Need to pick the brains of Prinny 52 owners on behalf of a friend.
What should the average cruising speed be fully loaded with fuel, jet rib etc & at WOT? It’s 3 years old with twin D11s 725
Would be really helpful to know.
Thanks

The 52 in the MBY test was equipped with Cat C12s. With 715 hp should be similar to the Volvos I think:
1900 rpm - 21.6 kts - 145 LPH
2100 rpm - 26.6 kts - 190 LPH
2350 rpm - 31.8 kts - 236 LPH

What surprises me though is that the same boat with MANs in this test consumes so much more (see table at 4:34):

More than 300 LPH at 30.7 kts....

nice boat btw; this era was a sweetspot in Princess design. Great cabins but without the crazy big hull windows of today.

Thanks both.
Eric, I watched that & all I can say is...I’m glad it’s not my fuel bill! Beautiful boat though for sure. Really well laid out imo.

Hi Raf...good idea. Henry??

My 2008 P50/3 with D-11 675's cruises at 2100rpm (max continuous) at 23 kts burning 100ltrs/hr per side. This is fully loaded with all cruising gear . At max power 2350rpm she'll do 30kts. The cleanliness of the hull is of VITAL importance. A fouled hull will take 5kts+ off those figures and overload the engines.

James.

Hi James, thanks for that. I’ll pass your info on. It tallies with their expectations. Do you carry anything on the bathing platform?

Hi there. Late to the party, sorry.

Figures quoted seem about right. CAT C12 715hp engines are a good lump in terms of power needs. It’s worth mentioning that at tick over you’re looking at around 7 knots for crudely 15ltrs per hour. Add in a couple of knots of tide if you get your timings right and you can move a big lump of boat for pennies whilst still having 23-25 knot fast cruise 30 plus knot top end should you need it.

The boat pulls effortlessly onto the plane in all states of loading and hull cleanliness.

My only gripe with the P52 and indeed P56 would be the rather limited galley especially refrigeration. In later P49/50s there is an option for a full height fridge freezer as per P50 mk3 but you do have to accept IPS rather than trusty shafts.
