I have a 1989 Princess 435 motorcruiser with a strange fault on the electric anchor winch which will only operate in one direction, whether from the lower helm, flybridge, or remote control on the pulpit, I've verified the motor itself by reversing the HT leads, and checked that there is no current on one lead by clamp meter, so the fault must lie in the wiring. I've tried to locate a relay, but have so far drawn a blank. Any suggestions?

My relay is in the chain locker up high on the back of the bulkhead. Have you tried tracing the cables from your remote control location? Perhaps it's mounted in your engine room? Behind the lower helm console? Wherever it is, unless in the chain locker or close to the winch it's likely to be found by tracing cables back, especially the big heavy ones to the winch. It does sound like a relay fault.
