I'm considering of buying a -93/-94 princess 360. I've seen some on sale (in the latest issue of MBY). The ones I saw had 230hp Mercury engines. Is that enough for a 39 foot boat? If there are owners of a similar boat in the forum, please let me know your experiences about the boat. Any information is appreciated, but especially if you have encountered any special things/issues with your boat that I should beware of when I'm looking for a such boat, please let me know.

There's ample power there although be prepared for some adverse comments about the make of engines.

Top speed will be just over 20 knots with no fuel or water! if it does not have stainless steel windows my advice would be find one that does.

IMHO, thats not enough power for this boat. I think the engines to go for would be the Volvo 63L's which are around 318hp and were fitted to many 360's. Should be good for 30knots with these engines
Its always best for resale to have a boat with the biggest engine option as it will sell quicker

230hp is not enough!
I had the choice of a Princess 360 or a Phantom 37, I went for the Phantom 37 because the accomodation was a lot better mainly, I have Volvo TAMD 63p's (370hp) and they are great! I get 33knots and cruise at 25knots at 2400rpm. I suspect that Mercury engines are a lot higher reving as well so possibly not so good.
I think the Princess 360 with TAMD63L's I looked at is still for sale with "boatmatch.com" so perhaps have a look there.
Hope that helps

WHOOPEE!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on your new boat!

What kind of fuel consumption do you get in 2500 rpm?

Our current boat is a 35 foot, Finnish-build Tristan Harmony with a single KAD43 (230 hp). Top speed is 30 knots with light load, cruising speed is around 24 knots. It works surprisingly well, thanks to quite small degree of 'vee' in the bottom. This, of course, does not help in rough seas =)

I'll check 'boatmatch.com'.

As a marine engineer I have worked for both Volvo and Mercruiser on these type of boats, and can tell you that Mercruisers just don*t go wrong, I have never done a head gasket yet, but did at least one a month when I worked for Volvo, as this is their Achilles Heel, the cooling system has to be maintained in good order or you run the risk of cooking the head gasket, having said that Volvos are a lot easier to fix, and in fairness the larger Volvo's are very good. However don't expect blistering performance with only 230 hp a side. Normally boats in this size weight group have around 300 hp each side.

regards Steve

Fuel Consumption ? I don't know!!!!!!!!
But I have bought roughly 200gallons since we bought the boat and I have done 320miles.
I will work it out for you, and look at the fuel consumption graphs in my handbook--------------------WAIT!
If you go to the Volvo web page and look up the TAMD63P it will give you the fuel consumption graph.
