Hello me again, p30DS not a bad boat, planing hulls only, go for shaft drive versions very good with tamd40A 150 hp, a bit quicker and probably a better sea boat , deeper V than 33 and Freemans, slightly less room than 33 but a lot more modern, flybridges also available, watch out for the usuall O problem on older Princesses although things were getting better in the layup dept in the mid 80's.Very nice one available at Berthons, Lymington one owner I think but only small volvos.
Just a thought, dont know how much you have to spend? but have you considered a Princess 37, better boat than any other you have mentioned, more room, speed, sea friendly etc, you may pick one up at the right price that needs some tlc, hence profit etc at the time of sale, 2 sleeping cabins, 2 heads, proper galley and large saloon with good l shaped setee for not a lot more than a good 33/30ds.
Look for boats test of time in back issues of MBM or look at their website.
thanks for help again.Have been trolling thru most of the thames valley marinas today.Am going cross eyed.most of the 30Ds i have seen have been in better condition than 33s.(One mk11 was an absolute wreck green vegetation )All petrol with legs so far. Will have to make trip to south coast as diesel boats all appear to be in that neck of woods.
Yes get to the sea if you want proper boat. Most crap arrives up river. A 33 is not a bad boat for its year and had alot going for it at the time. Cors it dont compare with a 35 but then it's a bit newer and more expencive. You takes yer money and --------------? Cant say the 37 much better than 33. Bigger yes but not better??
Sorry you miss understud. Was'nt saying that there was anything wrong with a 37.
But.
There are two hull types, V and Y. V.is for sea boats and Y type hulls are for rivers. Make sure you'r looking at the right ones.
Yep aware of that and the 180's only fitted to V hulls. Do you know much more about them, I'm interested in possibly looking for a good un.
Thanks.
John
Not very much except I used to have a 33 and a 37 is the same but a bit bigger. It wont be over fast with 180s in it.
If it was me. I'd go for some thing a bit smaller and newer.
The difference between the older 33-37 designed hull and the newer one (Cant recall the Name) like my 35 is unbelievable.
Also the fittings are much better and more room. My 33 was'nt too keen on rough seas. Well I was'nt in it!, I would have thought the 37 a bit better but not much. Now the 35 I'd trust in anything, well nearly. It just never has you concirned.
Its only round the corner in Plymouth go and take it for a spin!! Errr well beter hang on till I get down there!!
Has the 37 got legs or shafts?? I could'nt keep the props in the water with legs. Mind you we did go over to Ireland quite allot so it could not have been that bad,
I was in Exmouth for the first time this summer. Bit of a tricky place in the rough I would think.
Make sure that they are proper 210 as some 188 are easy to turn up the hp by pump and injectors, they then overheat as the heat exchanger is bigger on a proper 210, also the 188 had borgwarner gearboxes, wont go into whats wrong with them at this stage, but they are on the limit at 180hp, original 210 had twin disc boxes from the factory, which give scope for more hp later, also 210 has a revised cooling system and extra pipework.
For a proper rundown contact Mermaid direct, whats this boat called as I might know it if its on the southcoast, ive looked at many 37's over the years.
Haydn, thanks for the offer, I'd be interested in having a go next time you're down in Plymouth (how's the back?). Where in the river exe did you get to. You're right it can get a bit nasty in a SE 4 or more, even the trawlers stay tucked up on their moorings!
Was down there a few years ago waiting to get in,engine wouldnt start, miserable *** wouldnt wait 2mins for me to lift engine hatch and turn isolater to other battery.made me wait an hour for next bridge lift!!
Yep that's good old exmouth hospitality for you. It's not a lot better for us "locals". generally have to wait for latest cuppa to be finished etc etc.
Well the idea was to go up the canal to Exeter.
Spoke to a nice girl on the phone who said they'd open it up just for us.
Down side was. She told me that Exeter council did'nt allow sleeping on boats, not even the navy!
So we just staid in the marina for an hour or two then left.
Send me an email if you like and I'll contact you when
I'm comming down. haydn@whallgroup.freeserve.co.uk
