Anyone know what’s best primer to use on bronze p brackets and exhaust outlets , I’ve remove the p brackets as they were leaking , so I’ve taken the opportunity to remove all the old antifoul paint off them and there now in bare metal they will be anti fouled as well , But I wanted the best primer prior to apply the anti foul
Thanks Nick

Either Hammerite metal primer, or if you want long term protection and antifouling Velox primer and top coat. Do the props while you are at it as well.antifoulingpaint.net readily available in the UK from most chandlers.

Much to my surprise Hammerite special metals primer has stuck to my P bracket and prop. Shame the Tri lux painted on top hasn't lasted so well.

Although I have not used the Velox primer, despite using their antifouling, I understand from the UK importer's website that people have had a lot of problems with their primer. It seems quite reluctant to adhere.

This is in complete contrast to Hammerite Special Metals primer, that sticks supremely well to brass, aluminium and zinc galvanising. It does seem to dry to a rather shiny surface finish that needs a light rub with 180 grit before antifouling.

Thanks for the reply? as chance would have it I have some hammerite special metal primer that someone gave me few years ago unopened so I wil use that .should I put some pimercon over it or just antifoul straight over it ?

I put Velox on mine after abrading it lightly. No Primocon. Photo shows my Bruntons with two coats of Hammerite and two coats of Velox. End of a full season in Greece, not pressure washed.

In the photo, it looks like you are using the same a/f for both the hull and the metal parts. Because most, if not all of these paints contain copper it's considered better to use a sterngear -specific a/f such as Velox or Prop-o-drev, for these parts.
No, only the prop and P-bracket are painted in Velox. The hull is done in a Greek antifouling called Million. The Velox is black, the Million is blue.

If I could afford to paint the hull with Velox I would, but at something like €20 for a tiny tin that is unlikely.
