Price of Raymarine items

I am after a Raymarine STNG 5 way block A06064 and found a new source on eBay at £12-£20 cheaper priced than elsewhere. It quite obviously is not pukka RM but wondered if was likely to be ok ? I know you pays your money and takes your chances……

Genuine ones are £34, are the Ebay ones really that much cheaper ?
 
I have bought a lot of Raymarine stuff off eBay, all been either genuine new kit at discount prices or known second hand kit.
BUT eBay is just a market place - just like a market street, it all depends who the individual seller / trader is.
Many reputable marine suppliers are also on eBay, with good ratings.
If supplier looks unknown or bad ratings avoid.
Which supplier are you looking at for these bits?

So what did you find from looking up the seller profile?

Take a look at how much feedback, other products they are selling etc. Does it look right?

Categorised as a “private” seller, and not a recognised marine business (as some others are). But selling quite a few bits of electronics kit so not just a private seller who had something left over from a project. Bit of a semi-pro seller perhaps?
Only been on 18 months and sold 44 items, 27 feedback all postive - always read them to see what saying.
Would I risk £1,000 on a new plotter? Unlikely.
Would I risk £25 on a connector? Possibly. But plenty of other sources at a few quid more. Takes your choice.
 
I don't think there can be any electronics in these - it'll just be cast plastic with wires or a PCB carrying the electrical signals.

It would be easy to for a chinese factory to make fakes of these, and they'd work fine depending on quality control, but originals are so cheap and the market for them so tiny that I find it hard to believe anybody is doing so.

It might be someone selling off old stock, from a clear-out of a chandlery that closed down or something like this. If it's dodgy then I'd think it's the seller that's dodgy, not the product (if that makes sense).

Chinese manufacturers, almost without exception, only make for a market where they can sell numbers, for something expensive maybe hundreds for a cheap connector - they will only gear up for thousands. Its a problem for the manufacturer or 'us' - if we want it cheap they need big sales.

With a population of 1.4 billion - its simple economics.

However if you search there are people in China who specifically focus at prototypes. They will gear up to make 10 units, even though you only want one. :(.
