What experiences if any do you have of professional boatyards working on wooden boats? Or does everyone here DIY?
I'm potentially looking at getting some work done on a 39' ketch: some new oak stanchions, a cabin side renewed in marine ply, corner pieces at the front of the coachroof, a new wooden hatch built and fitted, and some seating/stowage built in the wheelhouse. There's also some generic stuff: wiring, plumbing, painting and the like. I could do it nearly all myself I guess but it would take me ..................who knows how long and I've no desire to own a project, but to go sailing.

So - all recommendations, warnings are welcome. I'm in the South East and I'd rather not be too far from the yard, but all intelligence gratefully received.

I'm very very fortunate in knowing the previous owner of my 1931 Motor Yacht that he rebuilt stem to stern.

What he and his foreshore gang don't know about boatbuilding ain't worth a ha'penny o' tar. I get ribbed about being junior, but it's worth it considering their experience and expertise.

If you're interested, he takes on commissions, based in Eastborne, is in his 70's, fit as a fiddle and very reasonable. Let me know and I'll send you his number
