Pretty O/B powered Duffy 29' lobster boat.

It certainly retains the traditional appearance with the tumblehome hull, narrow transom and vertical stem.
I guess time will tell as far as acceptance into a Euro market for the Lobster boat, outboards are certainly getting there though in the sub 8 metre category.

I've always thought the trouble with GRP is that you can mould it into any shape, and that exactly what modern navel architects do with their 'go faster' shapes.

Its very nice to see some traditional boat builders using grp to make proper work boat designs that have a genuine lineage, not just replicas.

I like this o/b version Rhea from France: http://www.rhea-marine.fr/en/portfolio-item/730-timonier-3/

I like the look of that very much. A bit spartan, perhaps? But imho all the better for it in this sort of market. It's a boat not a caravan!!

Always been a bit of traditionalist where boats are concerned and both the Duffy and the Rhea are good looking boats :)

Exactly. Its depressing to walk through a marina and see all those floating lumps of plastic.

Maybe its not the grp but the horrid shapes they design; if you order a McLaren or a Ferrarri or Bugatti it'll come in grp or carbon fibre, and the the classic Lotus Elan was also plastic but a very nice car.

Perhaps its the lack of tradition.

Its a great pity that the great classic British boats have become unfashionable, the Princess Fairline and Sunseeker outselling them by a huge margin.

In the states Fleming's Hatteras Grand Banks Mainship and Kagey Kogen Nordhavn are still big sellers; all classic designs.

I think the American lobster boats are as pretty as a picture, and still used as proper work boats.

This is a 31' West bay....
