Thanks to the people and their valuable recommendations on this forum, we have bought our first boat, subject to survey. It is a 2001 Prestige 36 with TAMD63P 370hp engines and 240 hours on them and has been very well looked after. I took my partner and friend who is very experienced on a sea trial and he noted that the bottom was dirty and that the bow was riding high maybe due to the fact of the heavier engines and suggested fitting trim tabs, so my question is to other people who have Prestige 36s is, which trim tabs to fit? and any other potential problems I should be looking at on this boat with these engines.
Many thanks
Jono

have always fitted Bennett and they have always been good
every fitter tells me to avoid the electric ones like Volvo QL and similar, but some chaps around will tell you they are as good as Benett
I think Jeanneau Prestige fit QL normally today, don't know about 2001 though

Careful there.
I don't know exactly the train of thought of this very experienced friend of yours, but a properly designed planing hull should need no tabs to cruise properly.
Trim tabs are mainly for levelling the boat in xwind, possibly to soften the ride in rough sea, and depending on the boat they can be useful to get up on plane quicker.
But if the bow is riding high in normal cruising conditions, you shouldn't fit tabs really, you'd better look for another hull.
Sorry if this is a useless suggestion after having purchased the boat, but that's the way it is.
That said, I agree with PY, bennet are ok for that kind of boat.

Don't know your friends mind, but sounds like he was saying that the fouling was stopping the boat planing properly, was it performing well? Fitting fixed or adjustable tabs used to be a way to get underpowered boats to perform a bit better, however this shouldn't be the case with your P36 not with 740hp! I'd forget tabs until you have had the bottom cleaned then see how it goes.

Hi,enjoy her its a good boat, I use to have a p36 but did not have trim tabs fitted, went well with out but would have been nice to have to level her out in xseas now got a 2007p46 with over 600 hours now, sounds like see needs a bottom cleaned

Thank you all. We have decided to get the bottom cleaned and fill the water tank up that is midship, as it is nearly empty, and see how she performs then. Because the sea was quite calm, my friend noticed that it did take a long time to get on a plane and as we went over other boats wakes, he was concerned that it might slam a bit in rough weather and that trim tabs would help sturdy the boat as well as get on a plane quicker. The concern of putting trim tabs on was only because the boat is being pulled out for a hull survey tomorrow and if all ok, I would have payed for it and then cleaned and fitted the trim tabs and new auto pilot while it was on dry land, but as was pointed out on this forum somewhere. It would be better cleaning the bottom again in April. I am looking forward to the boating and navigation courses and using my first boat. many thanks again to all.
