Just remembered I put this on youtube last year and now thought some of you might find it entertaining. It does not look that bad but I usually do not sit at the helm on a open sea crossing, almost never without the autopilot and very rarely without my iphone earphones plugged in. My wife typically go below and catch some sleep but this time not so. It started getting a bit rough and first I sat myself at the helm, I then had to disengage the autopilot as it was not fast enough to handle the waves and then I had to lose the earphones as there were all sorts of strange sounds from all over getting me concerned. Controlling the speed turned out to be most challenging, if I set it to be comfortably down wave the boat would almost never get on the plane and to keep there I had to increase the power which would have the boat racing down wave a bit too fast for comfort or safety. The conditions was an hour or so into a F6 on open sea in a notoriously bad area, shallow waters and several underwater currents competing for dominance. We still made it to home port with an average of 21 knots and no damage.
It was as usual good fun but I think the video is entertaining in that I get a bit stressed cutting out the autopilot and my earphones as well as me and the wife move around funny relative to the rest of the boat.
Please don't get off topic and all upset about me not usually being at the helm, I still keep a perfectly good lookout.
