Does anyone know why our pressurised water pump won't stop unless switched off at the switch? -we've checked the batteries and tried tapping the switch end but no luck!!
thanks in advance

assuming you've checked for leaks, it sounds as though the pressure sensor in the pump has gone. contact the manufacturer for info on spares.

the commonest arrangement is a spring-loaded diaphragm which operates a micro switch to cut the current when pressure is above a certain level. these micro switches often fail or there might be a leak in the diaphragm.

beware if you dismantle the switch as there are springs inside which can go flying! (guess how i know)

You could also have a blockage between the water tank and the pump, stopping it from properly pressurising the system. Had that in the summer, and it foxed me for quite a while.

That one kind of happened to me. Blobs of silicone sealant that fell into the tank from the bolts on the inspection hatch were drawn into the pump and stuck in the suction valve. Pump wouldn't stop running.

Could also be some dirt or misalignement in the backpressure valve in the pump. This happened to me, resulting in the pump going constantly, pumping some of the pressure back into the tank. When opening a tap it still pumped water, but with slightly reduced pressure.
Cleaning the pump solved the problem.

This is what happened to me, new old boats pump had been electrically disconnected, so fill water tank, reconnect pump, it runs continuously, eventually found filter on input solid with limescale, cleaned and reassembled all oK. Only problem is the muppet who installed it made just out of arms reach what a pain.

If you have the same belt driven jabsco pump as on my Nic, its worth checking your pulsation dampener by removing the screws that hold the base plate. If its old & gets distorted through say, running when dry, the unit just cycles.

Hi

I also have a pressurised (Jabasco) water pump which won't switch off, at least stay off, it keeps giving a few pumps about every thirty seconds.

Normally this denotes a water leak, or a dripping tap, but not in my case.

If I find the answer I'll let you know, or if you now have an answer please let me know,

Thanks
