Hi all, new-be just joined the forum.
I own a President 47 motor yacht and have been struggling all winter doing small jobs which should have been very easy. The problem is that I do not have an Owners Manual. I have dozens of OEM manuals for the individual pieces of kit, but nothing for the hull wiring/plumbing/management etc. I have written to the two previous owners but no replies. Does anyone know if such a book would have been part of the original deliverables, or is there a website somewhere which specialises in such books. Alternatively is there any other President Yacht owners out there who might help with some copies ?
I would be much obliged.

To be honest, I don't think the owners manual is going to help you much for a boat of that age. In my experience, its only in the last 10yrs or so that manufacturers have made an effort to provide proper manuals with wiring and plumbing circuits and even then, they tend to be generic rather than specific to the boat. You might be more lucky in locating a manual on a US forum like http://www.yachtforums.com/forums/

Deleted User,

Many thanks for your reply, I'll certainly follow your advice, but I suspect the next big job will be to write my own manual. Thanks again,

Thanks, I'm an Ex ETO with some 36 years at sea behind me, it wouldn't be the first time I've had to write a manual fron scratch.

Wow, ETO meant as Electrical Technical Officer? On ships, and for 36 years?
To welcome you to the madhouse, I would be more than happy to offer you a week of cruising in Sardinia.
If you don't mind making yet another manual after yours, that is...! :D

That aside, I agree with Deleted User. IIRC, it was the 1998 RCD that made the owner's manual mandatory for pleasure boats.
Besides, being boatbuilders the cottage industry that they are, a manual that fully reflects the arrangement of a specific boat is not so common also on new boats...
