After a tense few hours between phone calls from our moorings officer, our boat is now safe and sound on a mooring again.

She broke free of her mooring, was intercepted before getting into too much trouble, spent a bumpy while at the town pontoon , and then a brave soul ventured out into mountainous seas, risking himself and his boat, to put her back on a mooring. Had she stayed on the pontoon, she would probably have been a write off, as she won't dry upright, waves are breaking there, and there are a few rocks too.

So I figure I owe somebody something; I'd like to send him a present, as 'thank you' doesn't really express how I'm feeling right now... Any suggestions?

Nice to know there are still some good souls around who care about other peoples property.

Over the years I have had 2 people who saved me expense, one of which re-furled my headsail after it managed to flap loose - never happened again. The other replaced one of my berthing lines which snapped.

Both were dutifully thanked but would hear nothing of reward. Strangly some fairy seemed to leave some mysterious goods in their cockit whilst they were sleeping!

I have also returned the favour - removing a flaying dodger from 1 boat and tying it in the cockpit and on another occasion towed stricken boat 20 miles halfway back across the Irish sea before the lifeboat took over for the last 5 miles. Only thanks received, but then, like many, dont do it for reward.

I thought I was being an unknown hero (albeit of a minor nature) a few days ago when I turned off a pontoon hose which seemed to be running to no purpose. I was about to coil it up when I realised that someone was actually using it. I just couldn't see them behind the cockpit canopy. I did at least turn it back on. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Been there! Done that too!

Also wanted to use the hose on one occasion which was in use on a gin palace. After about an hour I decided to ask if I could use it to re-fill my water tank. No-one on board, they were in the pub! Oh and yes the hose was running, not for much longer though.
