When I am in a Premier Marina (using WIFI) my iPad and iPhone receives emails ok but refuse's to send them, up comes a note on screen "unable to send, rejected by server, a copy has been placed in your out box"
I have wondered if it is to do with my mail being sent via my business web site (hosted by f4 / Plusnet). Although it works fine everywhere else I visit.
I would call Premier's tech help line, but they charge £2min and after five minutes I will probably be told they don't know. Any tech savvy sailors out there? I would welcome any knowledgeable suggestions.
Thanks

There is usually a vast difference in speed of data transfer between sending (uploading) and receiving (downloading) - downloading being much faster.
This may in part or whole account for your problem.

This usually happens because the server will not allow send access to unrelated accounts, happens to me all the time. You can solve this by using an icloud address to send messages. Select it as the from address before sending, you can open up the old email by clicking on it in your inbox and changing the send address to your icloud address.

I have exactly the same issue, i am in Swanwick. I suspect their supplier is not set up to do open SMTP relay. Rather than waste £2 a minute suggest you have a go at the marina management, thats what i intend to do

I don't think you need SMTP relay open (port 25) unless you are running an email server on your PC. What email service are you running?

I use gmail, a VPN to the office and hotmail. All worked ok. That said, the service itself was rubbish and kept dropping out.

I doubt the guys in reception will have a clue or even any way to fix it for you. Senior mgt seem to be using the mushroom management technique on their staff.

I'm talking as an ex Swanwick berth holder.

As Mrplastic says - If the OP is using an email client (as opposed to a web based email account) then relay issues become apparent.

The email is probably sourcing from an unknown/untrusted source [IP address] that the email provider does not trust, although in the OPs case to get around the issue, the use of a web based email account doesn't sound possible.

Maybe it is possible. Spring - Does your F4/Plusnet provider provide Webmail access to your email account that you could use?

Also - Steve Clayton's Appletoolbox suggestion could on the right track to an answer for the OP.

Spring - Can you say what client software you are using to access email (e.g. Outlook, Euroda, Internet Explorer etc.)... There might be a way to add authentication configuration to your client software so that your client becomes trusted.

Same issues are seen when emailing via something like Eurdora email client via Iridium - but there are workarounds within the client configuration.
