Southsea lost its charm when the last lot took it over....i remember when it was good old plain and simple eastney marina....why did they change the name....guess to give it more appeal or maybe eastney is not a nice area.

but as a bigger note i have been watching marina events and proces very closely for a few years now as i move my boat regualry to get the best deal.

The Hamble is going down hill big time. I'm afraid that in about 5 years the small baot owner will be forced off that river. I can justify this by quoting the plan for the river. Less river moorings by moving them all to new or bigger marinas. Well if you take a look at every marina on the river you will see one thing. If they are already not big and expensive they are building to go that way.

I used to be at deacons on the hamble. The last real cheap marina...but in 2 years my price roseby 20%.

So i really do believe that unless you can afford 2-3-4-5 k a year to berth a boat you will be in trouble in a few years.

Stelios is leaving Easy Jet and is looking for new avenues of oppurtunity, maybe he could setup Easy Marina no frills moorings and storage. That would make the big boys choke in their de-caffe

Easy Marina

if Stellios built it would be :-

a) In Luton
b) A lottery as to whether your berth was occupied or not...so turn up day before you need to and never move boat in case someone nicked your space
c) Painted horrible pukey colour
d) Bring your own mooring bollards
e) Free, apart from taxes, Fat Cat charge (self-deprecating fellow isn't he), leccy , water, air, world , Greece election, charges etc.
f) Occupied by uncouth peeps /forums/images/icons/smile.gif/forums/images/icons/wink.gif

If they run Southsea anywhere near as good as they run Port Solent then it can't be bad. I know there are plenty of marina knockers on this site (mostly MDL) but I always found Premier to be helpful, fair, reasonably priced (comparitively) and very friendly. How they managed to keep their cool and even smile with all the pillocks going throgh the lock at PS is completely beyone me.

Re: Premier @ Brighton

I agree I'm in my second year at chichester and find them very helpful, friendly, enthusiastic and fairly reasonably priced.

I think other marinas could learn a thing or two from premier marinas

Re: Premier @ Brighton

I agree with Chris, Premier at Chichester are fantastic and reasonable prices for the area. The pricing won't remain competitive if they continue to raise prices 10% per annum year on year though!

"Hopefully that won't be too expensive to fix?"

Ah yes! Premier at Brighton, I must say that of all the marina companies that have taken the helm at Brighton, Premier do seem to be the only ones that are serious about running a marina. They have managed a programme of improvements and appear to present the bertholders case to the other areas of marina such as the flat dwellers we now have to share the facilities with. They have been most accomodating whilst we have been selling one boat and purchasing another, an area where relationships between bertholders and marina operators can often tumble. The staff are friendly too.

Yes I agree there too. When we changed from our 24 footer to 37 footer they were very tight for space but found us somewhere quickly to moor until a permanant berth big enough comes up. (not as yet)
Big well done Premier, very rare to here of good service from marine companies it seems.

Re: Premier @ Brighton

I've just returned from Southsea and spoke to the new manager - nice chap, sounds sincere. He's got £1.5m to spend on (IMHO) some much needed improvements - tarmacing the carpark, new gates to the pontoons, new decking, electricity points on every berth etc. He was honest enough to say that prices will rise, but the pricing structure will be simplified. He is hoping to write out to all current bertholders personally in January with an offer of a new contract and also hopes to publish details of planned improvements every quarter or so.

Hope I'm not putting him on the spot, but if he keeps us informed and makes sensible improvements, I shan't grumble too much at a small price rise - time will tell!

Simon
