I fuelled at Port Hamble yesterday morning and whilst chatting with the very pleasant ginger haired attendant he advised me their fuel is treated at delivery to their bunker tanks with Soltron.

Anyone ever heard of other Marine Fuel suppliers doing this ? In view of the cost of Soltron and its equivalents - Marine 16, Fuelset, et al, getting the fuel pre-treated must be a good thing.

By the way Port Hamble Fuel stop still provide free ice creams for the boats crews visiting them.

Most inland fuel suppliers pre-treat due to the % of bio fuels. Coastal fuel does not need to have the bio fuel element, but some marine suppliers on the coast may be using bio fuels if supplies are cheaper and easier. This might imply that Port Hamble is using some fuel with an element of bio fuel?

Different attitude here: Marinas get so called Marine diesel (non bio) where as all other consumer stations get the bio version.

Marinas' overcharge is some 15-20% so many carry fuel in cans.

I usually refuel round the corner at Premier Swanwick and theirs has been treated for at least the last few years, when I phone around to compare prices they use it as part of their pitch to use them, claiming they were unique, so maybe Port Hamble have only started doing it in response.

As mentioned above, I believe it's something to do with marina's being classed as 'inland' have to use bio therefore need additive to help stop the bug that the bio bit of the diesel helps promote. Coastal pumps just serve red diesel. I think all premier marinas treat their fuel.
