There used to be a chandler in Plymouth who specialised in second-hand boat bits. I'm going to be in Plymouth next week, & would like to drop in for a browse. Does anybody know whether they still exist, and if so, where they are?

Cant remember the name of it but it is still there and its on the West side of Sutton Harbout marina. The shop backs onto Vauxhall street (B3240) and there are signs there saying you've just passed it!

Hi tigawave,

I believe it was called 'Yotbits' or something like that (location as described by others) but I haven't been that way, 'cos of awful parking, for years and didn't realise it was still operating!! And I live near Plymouth too!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Are you referring to "Marine Bazaar" (Or however its spelt?)

Yachtparts at QAB have a few second hand bits if you root around.

Perhaps I should open my garage - its half full of stuff I don't need any more. (How do you advertise bits like old tufnol blocks etc....)

Hi John,

Doubt if he's talking about Marine Bazaar (also owns the Chandlery in Mayflower Marina) 'cos that's right by the Sutton Marina. The other place is/was up a small road to the right (coming from Bretonside towards the Hoe) just before where Cload's chandlers used to be - is it Lambhay Street? Was a very interesting place to rummage, and I bought bought several bits for my first sailing boat there!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thank you - I do advertise some items on the for sale section. The point I was trying to make was that I have loads of stuff more suitable for a boat jumble. It doesn't appear to be worth the hassle of advertising and posting items that are only worth 50p or a £1. A few weeks ago I put two liferings on the site. Bit faded, but perfectly servicable. Not one response, and they are now at the recycling site a Tavistock....

Marine Bazaar sounds like a strong possibility. They are listed by bt.com, so I will try giving them a call. Neither "Yachtparts" or "Yotbits" gives anything.

Thanks to all for the help.

Dont think Yacht Parts do second hand anymore, infact last time I was in. A few weeks ago, it seems to have gone the way of the rest and full of designer clothes and far less chandlery. Pity I bought my second hand anchor there years ago. Think the others round Sutton harbour have closed down.

Yes, I reckon you are correct. Think the place is on Martin Lane? on the waterfront at the W. side of Sutton Marina. Is in an old warehouse type of building that backs onto Vauxhall St/Rd. Or it was about 18 months ago. They appeared to have some 2nd hand stuff there then.
