I ordered and have installed a Powertxt unit after reading about it in MBM.

It works and does exactly what I need it to do; If the mains power goes off that it sends me a text message; when restored it sends me a text message.

I can send it a text message and it will reply with the status of the power and the temperature.

I see this as not only useful during the Winter months to ensure the tube heaters are powered but during the Summer to check that there is power to the fridge and deep freeze.

They are badged under several different names.
I bought the Energenie one about 6 months ago. Search for "Energenie GSM Switch"
I paid about £110 for mine but then about 3 months ago, there was a forum thread and we found them for around £80/£90
This was the thread www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?337309
Just looked again and the cheapes now seems to be around £120

Extremely well built and works - just as it says in the manual
The manuals are different but here is a link to the manual for the Energenie http://www.audon.co.uk/user/downloads/GSM_Power_Socket_Manual.pdf
