What does that mean?
Oyster are launching a powerboat, the LD43 at Shampton. Looks good, hull is hi tec - kevlar/carbon etc. Drives are jets with draught of 2ft (ish). Speeds of 30 odd knots.
Looks very capable (to me). Priced at the premium end for a 43 footer.
Oyster: are they a good manufacturer? Are they well known? Any info regarding after sales?
 
Oyster make 'classy' sailing boats.
According to the Yaching Press:

Oyster's "premium" tag is rather self-awarded, and if any company wants a queen's award (or many orther industry awards) the primary requirment is to fill in some forms and enter.

Oyster are heavily reliant on subcontractors to build a yacht, which may or may not be a good sign. But comparison with the likes of Nordia isn't very flattering.

Oysters are luxurious if your background is british boarding schools, aimed squarely at the sort of people who's Dad's boat didn't have hot water. So aircon is an extra, whilst heads and showers are a bit youth hostelish, elecdtrical appliances strictly NOT at the top end.

If you have owned/used any modernish failrine, sunseeker or princess powerboat (themselves not the ultimate in powerboating luxury by any means), an equivalent sized Oyster will seem a bit basic. In comparison with a Nordia or other continental makes it'll be crude or even a bit rough, even tho the price is not dissimilar for the same sized boat. It seems a bit strange that so brits buy british-made boats but wouldn't dream of buying a brit car.

Oyster win in one particular regard and that is that there is a quite decent social scene, with several social/mild racing regattas a year in med, carib around antigua week and so on. This alone makes an Oyster a nice proposition for the greying millionaire.

I suppose an Oyster powerboat *might* be able to tuern up at one of these regatta events, but i wd say that really the building of a strange powerboat must be a bit of a sideline. The boss must be getting on a bit or summink and simply can't face buying another brand. And if they can subcontract all the yachtbuilding, then whynot the building of any boat?

yeah yeah, we know yor thoughts on raggie boats not being luxurious. Oyster still at premium end of raggie market. Bit like Bentley tho they still use VW parts.

Er, ease on the drink praps Brendan. Tis not so on a wider scale, as I said. Praps limit yourself to stuf you know about, and ease up the booze. Mind you I suppose they might have leecloths on Oysters. Learnt what they're for yet? hm? sheesh.

[/ QUOTE ] Not quite, but not as far from the truth as you'd think. I believe an existing Oyster owner mentioned that he'd quite fancy a mobo because sailing was getting a bit much for him and the Company thought "yeah, why not"?

Probably a bit more complicated than that, but my understanding is that Hull #1 was bought by the aforementioned owner.

Don't know anything about levels of fit-out, but probably more exotic than my boat :-)
