Picked up a Special Offer Power Pack at Halfords last time in UK ...... £39 ..... thought OK - it will do for all those other times that 12v / Inverter is used without using up boat batt's. Well it has surprised me, it has provided power to start engines, run items way above what I expected ... OK - I'm not going to start my 6 ltr Diesel engine in my truck with it ... but it doesn't do bad !! Just remains to be seen how long it can stand being abused !!

Not only start capability ... but reasonable torch light built in and cigarette lighter socket ... with battery charge level meter and indicators ...

Very pleased with it.

I bought one in March for £79.99 - Portable Powerpack 200 - it's the dogs' danglys. 20Ah and a compressor for tyres etc.

Rigged up a cigarette lighter curly cord with a couple of crocodile clips, so 12V power for testing is available anywhere. Started the car, used the invertor to power the laptop for a while when I didnt have access to shore power.

Worth it's weight....

Friend bought different some time ago

He raved about it .... powered a 12V Pc with it ... ran TV's etc. So I waited till now to get one - found this one ....

17Ahr sealed battery .... 200A with 900A max boost ....... well that's what is says on the box !! Somewhere amongst all my junk on my desk is the manual !!

It will be used mostly on the small weekender boat instead of fitting proper batterys etc. as it only potters about the river ... the pack will be useful for running the E/S and plotter so that I can "survey" the river ... finishing my chart creation ...

Re: Friend bought different some time ago

Gee, I got a bargain then, only paid £29 for it from a Boat Jumble. Jump leads, Torcg Light, and tyre inflater. Charger for recharging. Had it about 12 month an absolute god send.

Latvia ... yes permanent ... back to Power Pack ..

Have found specs ... oh and price is £34.99 ... not £39 ...

Sealed Lead Acid Rechargeable 17 A/hr
12v out, 900 A peak, 400 A Starting power
7 kg weight
Cables flexible rubber insulated copper, 400A rating clamps
12v Cigarette lighter socket
Built in Flashlight with switch
Press to check button to Volt-Meter for Charge state

I'm happy anyway !!

Oh - nearly forgot ... the manual even explains about replacing the battery if ever needed ...as it's standard SLA type with clip on terminals.

Re: Latvia ... yes permanent ... back to Power Pack ..

There used to be some good tests on these on both the Auto Express website and the Practical Motorhome one. As ever, Caveat Emptor. Some quote a maximum boost of 400 Amps others quote a maximum cranking current. I think on some cheaper ones, the 400 Amps was what it could (theoretically) manage with a virtually dead short across it!
