Has anyone been on one of the fountaine pajot
powered Catamarans ? I have noticed that they are available for charter in the Carabean, I have seen one moored up in Palma Mallorca and wondered what they are like at sea.

Re: Power? Cats

Think these are cruising catamarans. They have engines but mainly sail. Their website is fountaine-pajot.com . I have been on one, but not while it was moving. More fun and better sailing on a monohull IMHO, more speed in the cat but doesn't feel like a proper saily boat cos it doesn't lean.

Re: Proper power Cats and beware kids

Perry I assume you mean a power (as in no sails, no mast) cat. Like http://www.moorings.com/fleet_details.asp?fttype=37P2E

I have seen these at the moorings charter bases but never been on one. Look kind of weird, would definitely charter before buying. Must have loads of interior space. If you do buy/rent, please do a pot noodle test on it and let us know what you think! Take care though, some people let their unruly kids drive jetskis between your hulls when you're not looking

Re:Thats the one

Thanks jfm, thats the one i saw in Palma, two 140hp motors
should go fairly well.
I am realy a Mono sailor, but like to have a holiday with a bit more room and comfort. We chartered a Athena 38 cat for a week but did more motoring due to lack of wind than sailing.

Thought it might be fun to hava a go at power for a change.

Re:Motor chartering

Why not just charter a normal motor yacht? There's loads of choice in Palma and elsewhere, and you won't face the prob of mooring the cat stern-to in the pretty full Balearic marinas (seriously, I'd imagine you wd get turned away most times in the cat, because its beam). I booked a charter literally last week for this August, and there was plenty of availability

Re:Motor chartering

I was mainly interested in the Power Cat becouse of its size,
Members of our Sailing Clug have been to Mallorca for the past 3 years and we normally go 8 up. It is a bit of a job to
find a Motor yacht that will take 8 crew at a reasonable cost.

I have found out that to charter one of these Power Cats it is around £2370 per week in June/ July

The fuel consumtion is 25L/Hr at 12Knots
and 35l/hr at 17 Knots

All this seems pretty reasonable.

What sort of dosh is your charter costing as a comparison ?

Regards,

Perry
