If anyone had current info. about the cradle hire situation at Povoa de Varzim I would be most grateful. I believe that you have to organise your own . Also whether they got the power supply organised to the boats on hard satnding? Hopefully yes but probably not? Many thanks.

When we wintered there a few years ago the marina did the lifting, then one of 2 contractors provided the cradles & blocked off etc. the system worked well. I'm sure the marina office will give you the contacts.
Limited power once you're ashore. If you're near an outlets you'll have power for a couple of hours a day while you're there to recharge batteries, but not once you leave the boat.
We had a goal post and solar panels fitted there- a decent job at a reasonable price.

Thanks for that, John, I'll contact the office. Just as a matter of interest did you find it pretty ok, wintering out there. Seemed like a really friendly spot when we passed through. Jeremy

Our boat spent the winter on the hard- we came home. No problem with that arrangement. We had friends who wintered aboard (afloat) & although she was part Portugese it didn't really work for them. The weather can be wet and windy, with a horrible surge in the Harbour during southerly storms, which are quite common in winter. There's a small winter liveaboard community, but many had been there a long time & our friends found it rather 'clicky'.

Thanks for that, much appreciated . We found it quite nice passing through and we'd only be laying the boat there for a winter so sounds like that should work quite well. All the best, Jeremy

We are ashore in steel cradles, hired from 'Nautica Tomane'. The other company supplying cradles is 'Nautica Vaga'.
If you have a long enough cable you can have power all day - it is switched off at night.
The yard is pretty full, but not quite to capacity.
The entrance channel is being dredged.
We are the residents of longest experience in Povoa.
PM me if you want more info.

Michael.
