Up to a maximum of 2kgs a packet can be sent air mail or surface fron the local post office and without looking at the price list well preseted on parcel post site costs under £10.

Next DHL the minimum rate for a small packet over 2kgs is £60!

I orderd a manifold for my 1958 Landrover the price for the part S/H was £18, the post charge for delivery by DHL was £48!!

In that case they finaly agree to sent it for £20 the person in the office told me that they have a contract with DHL and charge published price, which brought them extra profit???

I dident think any more about it untill yesterday evening,it had been a fine sunny day (at last)i had opened a good bottel of wine (on a monday) my wife hadent said anything about me drinking on a monday!!!so life was fine!

My new Folkboat would soon have all her equipment, and my thoughts were of sailing

I then got an email saying that an item i had bought was over 2kgs and the post charges unimaginable! It was then i discoverd that the post charges have changed! It would happen when my heads not clear!

DETAILS: Item weight 3.5kgs size 20cmsX25cmsX8cms Item bought in UK to be sent to Sweden or France

Any ideas?

France is cheaper than Sweden £25.20 for 3.5Kg three working days with parcel force, we use them all the time and get a slightly better rate for our own shipments. Sweden £32.95.
lets hope it arrives in one piece now!

The postal calculator is ONLY for the UK abd only up to 2KGS

I was told to use parcel force, BUT i do not have a contract with them, i have to use the private person (casual user button) then i have the SAME PRICE for either Sweden or France of £48!!!

2KGS airmail £8 3 KGS surface £48 somthing is very wrong with such privatisation

Any one another idea?? Perhaps a retern ferry ticket(last time i went was) £12 a train to the object less expensive!!

Seems as if you're in a hurry since quoting pre 9 am etc. We have just sent a 3kg package to Poland on 2-3 day delivery - the total cost was £35 incl VAT and I think that included an extra £5 to increase insurance from £75 to £300.

This was DHL via another supplier Interparcel - so far efficient - all done online and waybill emailed to us. It has, of course, yet to arrive (despatched yesterday) and any post office or courier can lose things as we know to our cost !

£15 thats what i would have expected and paid last year for a 3.5kg small pkt.

What then has gone wrong with the Royal mail?? In France the post may be privitised by order of Brussels, then post in the contryside will cease prices skyrocket and no sevice even in Paris for private users!

I shall pass this link on and hope somthing can be arranged,as someone has to be in wouldent work for anyone working and unmarried?

Looks a nice clean site. And im not in a hurry i would like it by May but even June would do!!

Re: Postage Charges incredible

We send Christmas parcels to NZ every year. There is a bizarre 2 kg cut over in the P.O. where the status changes from small parcel to parcel force and damn expensive.

This might be one of the items that the post office is looking forward to removing when they privatise, I dunno, just guessing.

A couple of times I have repacked parcels in the post office to save up to £40 and this can entail sending three smaller parcels rather than one bigger one. It is a nuts rule really.

Re: Postage Charges incredable/rip off

We have just had a battery charger type unit weighing about 2kg delivered COD from Schaudt of Germany by UPS postage charges 19.46 euros, packing 2.50 Euros COD charges 13.5 Euros why such a difference?

Also the unit which is for a Hymer motorhome cost 204.80 Euros (£125 approx) direct from this manufacturer where as the same unit from Hymer UK £395 a difference of £270. Nice to see the rip off is not only in the marine industry.

The rate I gave you was not the contract rate but the over the counter rate....from their current price list.
Price list booklet PW 754/04 EL Zone 7 for fFrance, Zone 9 for Sweden.
Sometimes the counter staff in post offices are not as well informed as the counter staff at Parcel Force, I suggest you go to a Parcel Force depot. I've always found parcel force very efficient and helpful, and the parcels get there on time.

Works for me in IE - never had a problem with this site. Use it all the time at work for quotes.
For Poland gave me a choice of 5 services - cheapest £25.15
