Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

Not only that but u will have to pay the listing fees all over again.
I've been caught out the same way over a different issue.
I think they should at least give you the right to change your listing before , in effect, fining you!
I think your problem stems from the fact that pay pal is an ebay company so they dont want to encourage other forms of payment.

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

I think e-bay own paypal now so they are quite sensitive to auctions drawing attention to their charges! They are somewhat autocratic in their management style - that's what tends to happen when you have a virtual 100% monopoly in any field.
As to being "right to be angry" - will it help by being angry, or is a more positive reaction possible? Use the energy to outwit them perhaps?

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

i just got [--word removed--], some nigerian con man got the details of a member and tried to get me to send a moby to nigeria, yeah right!, any way the sale was pulled and i have lost out a couple of quid plus the time to relist. arseholes. prob is that they are successful and have a monopoly

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

In fact they were very clear, its all in the T&Cs, as you are advertising that you take Paypal as a payment method, but want to increase the final auction price, which you should have calculated to take account of all the charges for the transaction. If not, then put a reserve price on (which will increase the fees again). The Paypal is like paying by credit card, in that you can get your money back if its a scam (sometimes), so is appealing to the punter.
You arent unique in this and lots of folk are trying it at all levels. They are particularly sensitive in the high ticket price areas such as Cars, Boats and Planes, as this fee can be high. I dont see it as any different than a broker charging you 8% to sell your boat, and then you telling the sap of a buyer that he will have to pay an additional 8% over the agreed price to cover the usurious charges of the broker!!

Deep slow breaths Brian. Go back and relist, and avoid controversial charges..... which might not be viewed as falling within their game plan./forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Fatipa

No point in being angry mate, It says in their T&C that you ae not allowed to surcharge for Paypal.

I remember getting an email from them when they brought that one out.

Tis a pain I agree, but......... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You type faster than me Jim!!

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

Question Marks are only a penny. Let them try and charge 4% of that!!!

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

I used to sell loads of stuff on ebay but have decided to never use them again because of their arrogant way of dealing with things. If the slightest thing upsets them then your auction gets pulled and "oh dear, you're going to have to relist that item and pay our stupid charges again". I also got fed up trawling through all the rubbish that's on there to find what I was looking for.

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

Seems they're upsetting more of the decent people on there , yet allowing the idiots to continue unchallenged

not hat department , mine's no competition to a moose or bison

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

I'm with you on that - eBay now seems to be dominated by professional sellers who know how to play the system and it is becoming a very unfriendly place for the occasional participant.

I wonder how long it will be before there is enough unhappiness for competition to be viable

My "crime" was that my payment terms included Paypal, cash, cheque or bank funds transfer but I mentioned if the buyer chose Paypal I would add 4% to the final cost as that's what it costs the seller.

[/ QUOTE ]

I got caught by this a couple of years ago, and I was equally furious for a while. I think I got my fees credited.

The fact is that you cant beat them, so you have to take it on the chin. I rationalised it for myself by believing that if you are going to charge say 4%, a buyer will deduct this from their bid. The other thing is that if you dont take Paypal, you wont attract as many bidders so wont get as high a bid.

I think you are right to be angry, but you need to be philosophical. The rule merely increases the final auction price, thus increasing ebays fee. Pennies on each deal, but millions of deals, but they have you by the short and curlies.

Just my 2 pennorth

I dont think ebay spend much time searching for items which dont abide by their rules.... they rely on users to complain, then they may have a look, and pull it if the complaint is correct. So your gripe is really against other users and, if you see someone flouting their policies, you should complain.

As to trawling... If I know what i want, I usually find that I can find it with a couple of fairly simple searches... if it's there.

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

I think you should relist, COS I WAS WATCHING EM AND HOPING TO BUY and I agree with ya so if I win , cash , cheque, ration book! But no paypal cos piracy is illegal in British waters

Re: Ebay - Am I right to be angry?

I agree entirely, and I also don't believe they make you pay the charges again - when I have had items pulled for breaking the rules they refund all fees.
Love it or hate it, eBay works. It is totally impersonal so getting angry with eBay is like getting angry with inanimate objects - which, of course, we all do!!
