Possibly the stupidest question I've ever asked...

But, here it is anyway.

I need to drill a series of 13mm holes in the boat.
It's probably the only occasion that I'll probably ever need to drill 13mm holes so ideally need a cheap option, it's not really worth me upgrading the drill on the strength of this one-off job.

My drill only has a 10mm chuck so I presumably need a reduced shank drill bit,

Found this one on ebay, 13mm drill with 10mm shank but the ad states that the cutting diameter is 11mm

Is it just badly worded, or am I not understanding it. Surely a 13mm bit cuts a 13mm hole?

Thanks all, much appreciated.
I had started to wonder if the 11mm referred to the shaft before the cutting edges started or if I was missing something, a copy 'n' paste job sounds like the likely answer!
As I say I know absolutely nothing about DIY so just wanted to check.

I've bought it, it's only 4 quid with the express delivery and it's advertised as a 13mm so I can always return it if it is the wrong size.

A 13 mm drill bit with 10 shank will do the job i fiberglass and wood. As others wrote it must be a typo 13 mm bit make 13 mm holes.

Or you could just lend or rent a larger drill?
A quick Google search for "tool rental Sittingbourne" came up with some hits :)

Thanks for that, we do have some very good hire shops in Sittingbourne, but buying that drill bit is the cheaper option. I'm also trying to buy tools as I need them as my tool collection is (was) pathetically small.
Had to buy an impact driver at the weekend to remove a single screw for example, but I've got it now so hoping I can save myself money in the long run by stocking up on useful bits.

"Blacksmith's drill" is what you need to look for.

Thanks for that, I would've saved an awful lot of time searching yesterday had I known what they were called! still, I know for next time now :)

Just a word of warning, I bought a cheap blacksmith's drill for exactly the same reaason (I think it was 18mm) and it came ground absolutely flat, with no chamfer. My friend in the workshop at work spotted it before I tried to use it and showed me how to run it over a grinding wheel to make it usable. To be honest my machine shop skills are not much above the home diy level but perhaps someone more knowledgable will be along in a minute to explain what would hgave happened if I'd tried to drill through a stainless steel pipe without doing that...

OK, thanks, I will fire it through a piece of scrap first before brandishing it at the boat!
