It is another E-mail Scam!!

Don't go near it Alistair. Better still, if you are a Halifax customer get on the phone to them and alert them.

I filled in all the details with absolute rubbish, and guess what?...it took me to another page where it states at the bottom of that page "EMAIL FRAUD! We never ask for your personal details using email" Ha-ha, bloody ha!

DONT GO NEAR IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I get one of these every other day from one or more banks including some i dont have an account with!!!!!

they NEVER ask for security details.
recenly bought liferaft on my Halifax credit card and they phoned to confirm the transaction was correct. even that felt wrong so i politely declined to give any info and phoned them myself.
everything was OK.

Yes I got it today to.

I have spoken to the Halifax and it's definatley a fraud.

As you resident Cop I should remind you all to NEVER enter all your passwords, usernames, favourite colours, mothers maiden names etc into a web site at the same time.

The banks will always either ask for part of your password (eg 2nd, 4th and 6th letters) or one of a number of other secure identity words, but never everything.

Doubtless you all know what is usually asked for by your bank; if this changes in the slightest way be suspicious. Do not enter the details but ring your bank first.

Yip, as i thought.

The reason i thought it to be Fraud, is that i am not even a customer of the Halifax in anyway shape or form!!!! lol

I have looked on there site, and they are warning about fraudulant e-mails, and ask for them all to be forwarded to then, so that is what i've done.

Just received a reply from The Online Email Investigations Department of the Halifax bank.

This was the reply:

[ QUOTE ]
Thank you for alerting us to the suspicious e-mail you have received.

Please delete the e-mail immediately without responding or visiting any website detailed within it.
We also suggest that you ensure your anti-virus software is up to date before running the scan. Further guidance on security can be found by following the links to our security section from our homepage.

A number of fraudulent e-mails are currently circulating in the UK encouraging bank customers to visit a website where card or internet security details are then requested. Typically these e-mails are sent randomly in large volumes and so by chance will be received by genuine customers. The e-mail may even be addressed to you in person; this does not mean that it is genuine and you should still treat it as suspicious. Your name and e-mail address have not been and would never be disclosed by us.

We never e-mail customers asking for confidential or security information. If you are concerned that you may have divulged any details of accounts held with us please call our Helpdesk immediately on 0845 850 0629.

If you have disclosed details relating to accounts held with other financial organisations, then please contact their helpdesk as a matter of urgency.

Regards

Re: Link is dangerous

Well, I'm using Firefox with the latest McaFee thingies and according their site, it's a trojan. Although given the description, more or less harmless but nevertheless.... I think your basic question is answered, right? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

McaFee:This detection covers HTML documents (such as web pages and HTML formatted email messages) that contain malicious JavaScript, which exploit an Internet Explorer vulnerability resulting in Internet Explorer displaying one location in the Address bar, but actually loading the content from a different site. Such URL spoofing can result in attackers creating forged versions of legitimate sites in order to steal account information, personal information, etc.

Re: Link is dangerous

Judging by that explanation, McAfee are tell you that its a dodgy illegall spam e-mail or the like. And i'd guess Probably not containing any Virus.

It explains "which exploit an Internet Explorer vulnerability resulting in Internet Explorer displaying one location in the Address bar, but actually loading the content from a different site", which if you copied and pasted the URL you would have found out the Address is for The PROPER Halifax site, but if you just clicked on the link they were directing you else where, i.e there scam page.

Easy to do, if you click this link you will see what i mean:
http://www.sealine.com

Another example of that is my link below, clicking on this link takes you to a yahoo site that i have managed to link my address too.

I'm sure Brendan will come along and correct me if i'm wrong.

But as you say, better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers

Alistair.
BTW, i also use McAfee 'V Shield' and i haven't had any warnings yet!
