I have just had a phone call from a pal who has his boat out at Better Boating, Caversham.
He is wondering if the island in front of Better Boating will be booked for speeding. It must being doing 7 knots he reckons just staying in position.

I used to work on Fry's Island in Reading; the one with two boatyards, and a lawn bowls club, between the main bridges.

Getting across the stream in February time was usually a bit daunting. Point the ferry upstream, let the nose drift sideways slightly and go sliding wickedly fast across the stream. Turn more than about 45 degrees away from upstream and you ended up down by the lock somewhere. Interesting boating when moving the hire boats round the island! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
