According to Wales Online news The Port of Milford Haven authority is in dicussions to take over the running of Burry Port harbour.1000005247.jpg

I understand that the Port of Milford Haven are also taking back the lease of East Llanion boatyard. Their representatives were looking round when I was last there in July.

The Port Authority have been slowly making things at Milford Marina worse and worse over the last five years so I don’t have a lot of hope for a marina in poor condition like Burry Port. East Llanion is well thought of (although I’ve never used it) so probably also bad. The PA seems to be interested in land and development like every other marina operator and not so much in boats and facilities for their crews.

We visit Milford Haven every summer for a few days at least and generally find the marina pretty good . Staff are helpfull, showers etc kept clean. Locking in /out straightforward.

Sensible. There's no money in marinas that dont have south coast style easy natural access ( ie no dredging) and south coast fee levels. Just look at the financial problems of Watchet and Swansea let alone Burry.

Watchet, Swansea, Cardiff, Burry and many others are/were only viable when part of the site goes for housing / development.

MHPA are trying hard to maximise and reinvest their not-for-profit revenue into a future for the region after the oil terminals are gone. Like the big hotel they built (Ty just manage it on their behalf. Your bank statement shows who gets your beer money and it’s not Ty on there).

Maximising their profits includes squeezing the Marina berth holders with double digit increases for a second year (probably a tiny fraction of a percentage of their turnover) and trying to buy the Council lease for East Llanion from Vance for waterside space for the upcoming offshore energy projects they are trying to attract.

Meurig would no doubt give chapter and verse on MHPA machinations but he’s still ashore in recuperation so I have to get my gossip elsewhere for now.

Great place East Llanion, I have overwintered there. Hope it's not developed into apartments, it's a prime site
I have heard the terms of the Council lease for the land mean it can only be used for maritime support services such as a boatyard, or if MHPA get their wish, a base for offshore renewable energy companies.

I like Milford marina and the staff are very good with day to day matters, but the annual rate rises and contract terms aren’t for the berth holders benefit.
But I guess everywhere is going the same way.
At least the day sailing once through the lock isn’t changing for the worse

I understood that the MHP are the freeholders, not the council, and the owners of the lease were surrendering it early for a cash payment.
