Me thinks I may have cocked up. I ordered a tin of "Blakes waterline" from online swindlers whilst ordering summat else, with a view to tarting up the waterline of my hull (ie. top 10" or so) when my boat is out of the water having outdrive serviced. However on reading the tin it states that it is for "boot..... something" and "outdrives". Will it be ok to put over the top of my existing antifoul just to freshen the visible bit till I next need a full antifoul ? or have I cocked up ?

Generally boottop antifoul is for the waterline if you have a different colour for eg our workboat has red antifoul with a white waterline which is waterline / boottop antifoul. That said I don't see why you can't use some of similar colour to freshen your waterline area. it should go over your existing depending on what you've got....You can usually put soft antifoul over hard or hard on hard but you cannot put hard on top of soft if you follow that!! ....Iain

Ian,

I use this paint for two reasons. Firstly to protect my sail drive which is Aliminium and is the main reason this paint is manufactured. The second reason is to paint a stripe of approximately 2-3 inches at the water line which is called a boot top. The reason for this is that the paint is a hard AF and therefore you are able to regularly scrub this line of any slime without reducing the effect of AF as would with a self eroding soft AF. The other additional benefit is that it looks quite nice. I hope that you can use it !

Regards.

Peter.

Just to sonfirm that my existing antifoul is white same as my tin of "waterline" judging by your replys it sounds like it should be just the job. Few more questions........
How far will it go ?
Is it easy to apply ?
Will it adhere ok on top of existing antifoul ?
