Spotted while mooching around Ryde Harbour IOW last week.

This is a TK public service announcement.

Looks in good condition, would make a fun boat for someone not too ambitious about long heavy weather trips; a development of the Skipper 17 built in the late 1970's by Richmond Marine, I seem to recall they have twin lifting centreboards.

Hope the owner gets a good deal.

They were latterly made in Lincolnshire near Lincoln until the owners decided foreign competition made it uneconomic. It was a shame as they had turned the indifferent finish of the Skipper into a very well made boat in the Eagle. There were a few on Rutland water.

It was designed by Peter Milne, the man who designed the Fireball.

You could have had all that was left of Parker Yachts for £30k the other week including right and moulds for the Parker 235 trailer sailer

I keep an eye on the Skippers and Eagles, have always liked the look of them. The Eagle has more ballast and a bigger sail area than the Skipper. Some early Skippers had a single centreplate but all later ones and Eagles had the twin centreplates mentioned.

Although the early Skippers were built by Richmond Marine, they then went to Anderson, Rigden and Perkins in Whitstable, who modified and improved them. I don't necessarily agree the finish of the ARP boats was 'indifferent', based on what I've seen. They planned to build a 'super' Skipper rather like the Eagle before they went out of business.

There are several Eagles on Ebay and Apollo Duck now for anyone wanting to get an idea of prices.

Merry Girl,

that's interesting; I saw Skippers being made at Andersons' yard in Whitstable, but the salesman told me they kept their name out of it as Richmond wouldn't agree on standards; maybe they improved the boats and took them on after this, but it's the first I've heard of it, I know the ex- M.D. of Andersons so will ask him.

Andersons started in 1917 and built quite big traditional wooden fishing boats, launches & racing yachts before the grp boom when they had a contract with the MOD to make tough warship launches then also the Anderson 22, 26 and the odd try in between - they were generally very good builders, though I would say that wouldn't I ?! :)

I was in Ryde last week and saw this boat.
The advert for it is posted on the Harbourmasters window.
If I remeber correctly, the price was £5800!!
Which sounded a heck of a lot to me??

I suppose that is a reflection of the price when new, the Eagle isn't that old and this one looks in VGC.

However one would have to have a very good reason or be hooting mad to pay that, considering the other boats one could get for that money.

did a fair few miles in the family Skipper 17. Great little boat and the one we had did have twin centreboards. Huge cockpit from what I remember

I think there are some incredible deals out there to be had. Probably never been easier to get on the water. saw a 20footer for £200 in portsmouth a year ago or so...needed work but for £200 you've got yourself the start of an adventure. sold my Trapper 28 for £2k last year....also needed work but again, a lot of boat for the money

The A22, is a warship?

Shepherds had one for about £6K on a trailer about 6 years ago in Bowness. Very smart, but even then I thought it vastly overpriced.
For a boat this size and age, even immaculate, you shouldn't be paying more than about £3k or so.
