The Eu are debating allowing a new lower level of VAT on labour intensive companies. These include restaurants, housebuilders and I would hope boat builders! If it does happen then Gordo has to agree to it first but could aid an ailing boat market.

Cheers

For what it's worth, the french have had 5% TVA (vat) for house renovations for a number of years, to qualify the house has to be more than 2 years old, with both materials and labour reduced to 5%TVA instead of the normal 19.6%TVA, but you have to employ registered artisans. it was introduced to protect the workers, to try to stop the black market of cash workers, 5% is better than 0%.Also building work carried out in france carries a 10 year guarantee.

Yeah, I can just see that. Crash Gordon allows a 10% reduction in VAT on gas guzzling CO2 belching luxury gin palaces whilst unemployment rockets to 3m and anybody left in a job (at least in the private sector) is looking at a pay cut. Yup I guess that makes political sense
