Went on the 'posh' pontoon A at CBYC and if i were you i would stay well away. Maybe my fault for putting the mooring line around the winch then to clete but a mobo created so much wash it ripped the winch right off! 2 new winches now and a £600 bill.....great!

Bad luck that Andy.I usually do the same as you in using the winches to take a turn around for the springs when I am on a pontoon berth. The pontoon there is pretty lively in a North Easterly gale as well.

The pontoons at that end were bouncing about a couple of weeks ago when we were down for the boat jumble. It was interesting to see the effect on the visitor berth which are the first line of defence during strong north easterly.
Whilst on the subject, what is the procedure for using visitor berths and club facilities now and again. Do we need to radio or call anyone? Is clubhouse strictly members only or can we be signed in?

No just turn up on the pontoon nearest the barrage then sign the visitors book in the bar. There is a fee but not sure how much but there is shorepower, diesel , water, good showers etc. For a short walk there is a regular bus to Mermaid Quay or Cardiff centre just outside the big glass swimming pool.
Or B line taxi in Penarth.Like Graham said , don't tie on the visitors if it is strong N or E.
