Locations on here tend to be a bit ambiguous, if that's the right spelling, so is there anyone out there based in Sao Paoa ( I think that's right too ) , me and Louise will be heading that way for two reluctant weeks hol soon, so it would be nice to meet up with some distant forumites

Sao Paoa does not give much indication apart from sounding Portuguese. It could be Portugal, Madeira, Azores or Brazil ...
I guess if someone's near there they will know where it is /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

OK I got the letters a little squiffy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, it's actually SAO JOAO , sorry for the confusion , happens to me all the time , what's the weather like at the moment

There's a place called Barao de Sao Joao, inland to the NW of Lagos in the Algarve - might be there? If so, the BBC say it's sunny and 13 degrees today, with a light Northerly wind. It can sometimes rain like hell, at this time of the year, but Feb. is often beautiful, with the almond blossom coming out.

I may have messed up the original spelling of the place, but I think the word PORTUGAL , should make it easier, is that not why you clicked on it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

As far as I know , yes that is the place , confusion due to not being me that picked the hol , otherwise I would have searched a bit first . All I have so far, is it's in Algarve near Lagos , and if the spelling is wrong , be patient , I'm having to guess most of the info that's why I'm after a bit of sanity when I get there /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Found it today! Hmmm, does your wife have a sense of humour?

It is a tiny village several kilometeres inland between Lagos and Sagres. Couldn't see any hotels of any substance (or any hotels at all for that matter).

You may think you have entered into a time warp as the rural area around is populated by hippies who have settled in their caravans, shacks, vans etc and the bar in the village is said to be quite lively.

You must have a car! All the rental companies at Faro airport are on line and you are looking at about 100 euro per week for a little one. Get to Lagos, follow signs to Sagres and the turn off is about 10k along the road on the right. If you don't have a car, take plenty of books.

Good luck.

I second the Hippy stuff; one of SWMBO's cousins lives near the next village, Barao de Sao Miguel, in a wooden cabin (officially a shepherd's hut, for planning purposes), making tofu and tinkering with her self-composting toilet. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The simple rural idyll is, however, bolstered by Daddy's trust fund, which came from property development.

Actually, there's a really nice, laid back feel to the area and if you are staying in a villa out in the country, with a pool, there are many worse places to be. Just don't expect cosmopolitan sophistication and glitzy nightlife. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the help guys , what's the temperature feel like at the moment (day/night) , Can't get the feel using these C and F radings on the weather sites

"Just don't expect cosmopolitan sophistication and glitzy nightlife.".......................................jhr! Well it depends how you define that & whether they are mutually exclusive or not! Lagos has a great nightlife - you have to look for it though - its mainly in the backstreets of the town. There are also some sophisticated restaurants that are far better to most of the "sophisticated" restaurants that I have been to in the UK. Yes there are lots of hippies & the locals are laid back (until they get into a car!) but that all adds to the charm of the area. And if it was sophisticated & glitzy then you would lose the character of the area. You shouldn't be too far from Burgau - thats another little village, not sure what's open there at this time of year but I can guarantee that some of the bars will be. Have a good time in the Algarve.
