This is just to say thanks to everyone who has put such brilliant information, advice, tips, tales, do's and don'ts etc. on this forum for so long. I've been an avid voyeur for years and the invaluable threads make it so much easier for relative novices like me to sail away and live the dream. This is day two of our new life afloat. We're in Albufeira with plans to poodle around the Algarve for a few weeks before hopping down to Gib and beyond. The Ionian is the ultimate destination but I reckon there'll be a few places to drop anchor in-between. Just to clarify, the boat was sailed across by a professional skipper last year and we did a number of holidays before recently retiring. Now, we're here for the duration and loving every minute.

congratulations

we did the same 6 years ago, had a great time in Portugal including adopting daisy dog in sines, traveled on into the med and have been in Port Yasmine hammamet Tunisia for a few years now, various bits of our travels and info on Tunisia are available on our website mtmarineservices.com,
Tunisia is a great country and not expensive eg fuel approx 50 euro cents per litre
camping gaz refill 2.5 euro,
enjoy the life

We also have a Sadler290 (042) & left Southampton May 2011. Our itineray was Falmouth, La Coruna, Portugal, Spain(again), Gibraltar Straits to Ceuta, Cartagena (Nov-Apr, liveaboard), Barcelona, Roses, Port Napoleon, River Rhone & right now we're in Lyon headed for Paris ,Rouen, & Blighty (mid Aug)

The 290 is a great boat perhaps not quite big enough for long term travelling especially water & fuel capacities but living space was quite adequate for two IMHO. Our mast is being transported by road to Rouen as we didn't fancy a 2m overhang fore & aft. Pleased also we have 30hp instead of the original spec 20hp otherwise we would never have made it up the Rhone in May ! I shall follow your blog with great interest. PM me if you wish to swap practical tips.

Well done from Vis

Glad to hear you have at last escaped the confines of regular employment.

We have started yet this season. We are based in La Linea just over the Gib border

So get a move on and we'll have a few beers at the end of June.:D

Hello from Vis

Glad you've managed to stop that horrid work malarkey.

We are in La Linea and hope to be out sailing at the end of June.

Drop us a line when you get to Gib and we'll have a few beers

Lynne and Rog

Live your dream!

Hi Anniebray,
We are currently at Lisbon with our Lagoon 380 Cat, called "Mobilae". We plan to sail south in July and as you say "poodle around" in the Algarve too for a while.
Might see you somewhere and have drink together!
Maarten & Marjolein.
