Slipped the lines at portsmouth a bright sunny tuesday last week for delivery trip to cardiff had a fine broad reach agaisnt the tide to poole to pick up 2nd crew member

Set off from poole to Dartmouth at 5.30 am across lyme bay giving portland bill a good 5 miles again we had a nice broad reach with the tide made very good time and arrived in dartmouth at 6 pm

Left Dartmouth bound for fowey 6 am the easterlies persisted and had a fine broad reach all the way there

Left fowey early bound for newlyn not too sure what to expect there having heard a few stories of fisher men getting grumpy with yachties as they have priority for berths within the harbour
As it turned out found a berth no problem the harbour doesnt seem to have much going for it nor the town in my opnion
Newlyn was the furthest ive ever ventured south so it was with some trepidation that we set off in the dark at 5.30- am bound for padstow
We had a cracking sail round lands end as the easterlies started coming on the beam as dawn was rising

Lands end was a fine sight

As we turned the corner to head up to Padstow the wind died a death so on came the motor and even a chance to catch a few mackrell to feed the seals in newquay harbour

We made padstow in time to get through the gates and have dinner in true padstein fashion
Then off under motor up to ilfracombe where a nervous skipper made the decision to dry out against the wall theres always a 1st time for everything

After we settled very nicely against the wall with the bow sticking up about 20 degrees we had a resonable nights kip ready for the last leg with force 6/7 predicted and the feriocus bristol channel tide on springs at up tp 4 kts

What a great sail and fine pictures too- well done for getting the best out of this rather unsatisfactory season for weather

Hi Mark,
Great voyage log & photos! you were lucky with the weather and probably had the best week we've had all summer!!
Cheers
Mike

Your second photo is of Sharpitor and Bolt Head - and you're heading towards Salcombe Bar.

Did you call in? Any particular reason you left out mentioning it?

"Well, good!" to quote an obscure but successful military leader.

Sounds like a good 'un - lots of 'enjoi', not a lot of problemo, and some happy bunnies at the end.

Did you write up your notes - for your eyes only - of what you learned, considered, worried about....? For the years ahead? For next time? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
