1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen’s Harbour Master that on Friday 27 October 2006 a pyrotechnic display will take place from a barge (BT1) located 100 metres west of the outer pontoon of Gunwharf Quays. In less than favourable wind conditions the barge will be positioned a further 100 metres out from the pontoons. It is expected that the firework Display will last approximately 12 minutes, starting at 1910 and completing by 1922.

2. Mariners are warned that, for safety reasons, the Harbour will be closed during the display from approximately 1905 to 1925 with a 300-metre exclusion zone established around the pyrotechnic barge’s position. The perimeter of this exclusion zone will be patrolled by two launches from the Ministry of Defence Police. Four RIBs of the Volunteer Harbour Patrol will also be present for marshalling duties. All patrol craft will monitor VHF Channels 11 and 13. The Gosport Ferry will be allowed to continue operations but is to transit at least 100 metres to the north ! of her normal charted route during the Harbour Closure period.

3. The barge serving as the main launch platform for the pyrotechnic display will be positioned 30 minutes prior to the promulgated commencement time and controlled by QHM on Ch 11 with an immediate removal back to Gunwharf Quays on completion of the display.

4. Mariners are advised to remain clear of this activity and be aware of the impact of pyrotechnics on their night vision and hearing, if in the vicinity. A broadcast will be made by QHM advising mariners of the harbour closure and opening time, prior to and on completion of the event on Ch 11.

5. Cancel this notice on completion of the display.

The barges are normally moored in Fareham Lake just below Bedenham ammunition jetty for a few days before the display. Just before the fleet review last year there were four or five of them. I've often motored past and asked the crew for a match. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Efter the hullabaloo the navy made over the launch of a patrol vessel (HMS Clyde), is this fer G Fawkes or are the navy about to launch anither ship?

Well I'm leaving for St Malo on the 20.00hrs Britny Ferry, It's very good of them, they never mentioned it, but we are gratefull. I'll ensure SWMBO and I are on one of the decks to wave to you all. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't know for sure, but it's a bit of a coincidence isn't it? I mean this happened in the summer the night before we left Cherbourg. Someone said it was something to do with Bastille day, whatever that is!
