Hi,

With all the whoha going on with Spainish taxation etc ; the seemingly high cost in SoF has anyone got a view on this new development.

I saw a piece in the w/e FT and have since got some info - but a non boaty friend tells me to leave well alone (he was some local knowledge).

Don't have any direct knowledge but the supposed attraction is the potential rise in property prices in the development around the marina but, given the current economic climate, it would be a very brave person that bet on a Montenegran property boom IMHO.
As a place to keep your boat, I can see that superyachts might find it attractive because it's outside the EU and there won't be any pesky customs wallahs asking awkward questions about VAT and matriculation tax. As a place to keep a normal boat, the scenery is supposed to be v attractive and I think thats about it. I guess there's no infrastructure yet for maintaining or looking after boats and I doubt very much whether Sleazyjet has any plans to start flights to Montenegro. If you fancy boating in the Adriatic (and who wouldn't?), then IMHO Croatia is a better location. The ACI marinas are very well developed and a boating infrastructure has grown plus there are flights to places like Split and Pula

The northern end of Montenegro is fast becomming developed by Russian interests. New marinas are planned. Old marina in Bar, towards the south, which is great place to visit but hell for getting your invoices approved by accountants; they are all labelled "Bar" /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The euro is the currency used and they will before too long be admitted to the EU, once the missing war criminal is found.

Access either via Belgrade/Serbia or into Dubrovnik and drive south. New flights this year via Podgorica.

House prices shooting up now, my regret didn't buy when I had the chance.

People are great fun.

Use the Google to check.

Porto Montenegro in Tivat - offers free berths

Hey,

Porto Montenegro is opening its first phase this summer (free berths) - They don't have all facilities yet because it is all brand new, but should have next summer.

More info on the Marina for Super Yachts on www.montenegro-news.me in the dedicated press review on Porto Montenegro.

Cheers.

You sum up my thoughts really.

I am getting mixed messages as feed back, that why I asked on here to see what the view was.

Three LGW flights is a start as is proximity at the other end.

Wx is good and cruising I guess fab. A lthough understand that to the North in Croatia is toppy pricewise. I have heard of the 'Russian' issue too.

The price per sq m for the marina development is expensive from what I see.

Backers are an interesting bunch - incl Rothchilds and Bernard Arnault (LVMH & Princess).
