Had a non sailing climbing day on Portland today and then went down to Pulpit Rock for a look from the landward side rather than seaward side fore a change .. pot bouys everywhere on the inshore route .. take care .. impressive white water on a otherwise smooth sea.. will continue to give a wide berth in anything like slightly crap weather and Oh when I was climbing the sound of 2 jet skis a mile away spoiled the tranquility .. can't they fit silencers to the sodding things?

I agree but would also mention from first hand ropes around the prop expriences, those were the bouys above water, the real avoidance challenge is when the tide drags a lot of them under the surface.

There were lots of them on the inshore route last week. None with flag markers (probably no use when the tide gets moving?). Seems dangerous to have them there.

I always think about how much care we all take to avoid the pots but at we all quite happily sail at night when it all becomes a total lottery!

If they are properly marked with a flag they should be visible at night. Not always easy to see, but if you keep a good lookout, you should be able to see them.

Unfortunately, I reckon that less than 10% are properly marked
