Portishead to the sHamble

This is becoming another PeteM boat buying-type thread. Still no alternator, although John from Spare Thyme has sent me one of his. I should see it tomorrow. What a wonderful resource this forum is, full of fantastic folk! Anyway, the weather window has closed, so going back home tonight. Will be juggling work with weather windows for the next couple of weeks

I think we should christen these things as 'Shaggy boat stories'! I am of course a master of such things!

Thats a real shame. Continued luck in getting it all sorted matey.

Quick update. Left Portishead yesterday with Who (Mike) and S eds (Iain) of this parish. Made Padstow to refuel but picked up a temp alarm on the port engine. Temp gauge was fine, as was oil etc. No coolant lost, but I was reluctant to head off around lands end with an alarm. Called a local techie from Rock who arrived 30 mins later. When he stepped on, the alarm silenced. Typical! Anyway he had a good look over the engine and could find nothing amiss. Being a Cat, there is a cunning powered thermostat, which we think includes the alarm function. I'm hope LS1 can clarify. Anyway, this faffing caused us to miss the tide slot so we holed up in Padstow, and left this morning at 05.00. Very confused seas around Pendeen, otherwise a fantastic trip and no repeat of the alarm. Got to Mayflower and baked out as the 3 of us had to get back for work tomorrow. Hope to finish the trip (finally) next weekend. Great wildlife watching on route. Lots of dolphin pods, a shark breaching, a seal and a puffin. Will post some pics in due course.

A few boats from SMYC were at Padstow yesterday including Jon (Portishead) who I believe you are acquainted with. They had a good passage today up to Penarth I understand and, likewise saw. many dolphins.

Well done P, was wondering how you'd got on. Nearly there!

Glad trip is going well. Saw you on Saturday at padstow moored on fuel berth quay, we left the harbour behind the "Matthew", they fired its canon on the way out to the delights of the crowd on the shore.

Saw the Matthew, but missed you, sorry. You left Padstow at a good time, it was packed! One off my bucket ticked though. We moored on the wall overnight, and left at 05.00 in the dark. Slowly and sharp eyes for pot markers :D

'Twas a good trip for sure, and top marks to the two engineers who came out to look at the boat on Saturday afternoon and gave her a clean bill of health

Amen to that Iain. Rock Marine Services. Came across the Camel by rib. Tested everything they could think of, including confirming that the temp gauge was working correctly, then wouldn't take any payment. Great service and top guys.
