Can any one recommend any marine engineers who have machine shop facilities in Portishead? I know Sami_lymington had his boat there recently. We've got a forumites boat to sort with cutters and havn't fitted any any fitted yet in that part of the world.

Thanks

Neil

Why not go a bit futher up channel and use sharpness shipyard - full facilites and lots of knowledge, good on prices as well.

The guy I use recently put some rope cutters on for me without a problem
But as you have probably read made a mistake on the oil leak I had hes curently doing
Pm if you want his no
there are other people in portishead who have a reputation of saying yeah yeah I can do it a month passes and nothing is done you get the idea
Regards

Our cutters work with the use of a fixed blade and a rotating 'spool' which any debris wraps around. The spool is a ring of either composite or bronze which is attached to the prop hub, this has to be machined to the correct diamater and length for the boat. Its linked to the OD of the bearing carrier and the ammount of fore and aft shaft movement and gap available. This varies on each boat.

There are photos of fittings on our website, the spool is either bronze or on the orange hulled fishing boat its light grey. Bronze is used for the smaller cutters, ToughRtex composite for the larger ones.

PM Me and I can tell you a tale of WOE that you REALLY REALLY ought to hear before using anyone - or more particularly someone in Portishead.

I have given them almost £2000 to do absolutely sod all about a problem I have, that it is beginning to look like is something simple and common fault on these engines....

There are some bloody incompetents out there..
