Dredged last week, so the keel-grabbing mud lump has gone. Should be a straight channel parallel to the pier now, but I haven't seen it at low water yet - pic to follow when I manage it.

Passage is now pretty much straight in parallel with the pier, at the depths around first and last lock anyway, now the mud lump has gone.

If mud is showing along the bottom of the quay wall then there won't be enough water on the lock sill anyway!

Greatest depths still follow the S-shaped channel, but it is much less of an issue now.

Gorgeous afternoon - wish I was out sailing!!

Cheers Damo,

We usually arrive and leave at HW so it's never been an issue to us. However, next year we'd like to have a go at Sharpness, so it's certainly useful to know. Can't see us visiting sunny Portishead until next year now sadly - since I'm a complete coward and a definite fair-weather sailor.

Take care mate,

Lizzy D

You should get to Sharpness on a tide easily enough anyway, but it is always nice to have visitors /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You can't be a coward - this is the Bristol Channel you are talking about /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We are aiming for Sharpness next year aswell (1st time) maybe see you up there /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Damo, thanks for the pictures.
You'd better have a day off after shovelling all that mud /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
