Having looked extensively at the portable heater range (both gas and 12v) i am struggling to make a decision. The 12v heaters seen immediate heat but reviews show poor preformance. The portable gas heaters seem good however have a carbonmonoxide risk. Has anyone had any experience with these?? any recommendations apart from the usual crys to install a marine heating system.

I cannot think of any 12V heater that would produce enough heat to heat a boat. Batteries would simply not have sufficient capacity. - The only viable options are diesel based heaters (Mikuni, Webasto, Eberspacher etc) or possibly some form of gas powered one. Why the reluctance to fit a proper heater?

many thanks to all, reasons for not fitting a proper diesel heater is financial, why spend if there is an alternative. Also the blue cat gas heater seems to tick all the boxes, great to hear someone has experience of this in use.

I have one of those small ones you get from caravan shops ebay No 260578901547 the gas lasts about 2 - 3 hours turn heater down and it last longer and if you go to the right place you can get gas cheap. I bought a box of 6 or 7 in a pack for £32 which is about £2 a can or £5 a can from chandlerys. Its good for short term until boat heater has warmed up but remember gas will give off moisture and cause damp long term.

As long as it is short term only and the boat is ventilated before going to bed.

I use a Colman Blackcat catalytic gas heater, which doesn't give off carbon monoxide.

The they now have a propane version, which means no wasted gas left in the can and it will work at below freezing temperatures.
