Port & Starboard on the Orwell today

Sad incident which ruined the race for two yachts. Strictly speaking not on the Orwell, it happened at the windward mark - Foxes Race Mark - after the start of the North Sea Race.

The Dehler was seriously damaged but able to return to RHYC without assistance. This was not the only incident at the windward mark, there was contact with minor damage between 2 other yachts in the other class, a protest is no doubt pending.

Yes, both were racing in the RORC North Sea Race. I understand the Swan was on Port and both retired from the race.

I was on the start boat, and she admitted that she was on port and in the wrong on the VHF.
The Dutch crew were in FMYC tonight. damage limited to the cockpit area.
also a Sigma 33 that hit something on an overnight delivery / feeder trip for the race . she is also in Fox`s for repair
The Swan seemed to have a very inexperienced crew

Yeah. Poor old skipper was a bit shell shocked at the time.
Such a pretty boat, the Swan. Shame I didn't remember the difference between a ketch and a yawl....... :o
