At non UK ports one is always asked for the yacht's "Port of Registration" or similar. What do you put if you are on the SSR? Some friends put any UK port they fancy, others Cardiff as that is where the SSR computer "lives", others quote their last UK base. Is there a technically right answer?

I always put London. No special reason. Officials don't really care so long as you fill their form in!

I use Exeter as it sounds posher than Plymouth - where I was actually based. But MedMan is right it doesn't matter in practise /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

In spain last week I put UK and nothing was said, I was a bit bewildered what to put though, how about port vale /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

99% of the time that's true. it's the occasional pocket hitler you need to watch out for. to avoid problems with those, cardiff is the only safe bet. acting obsequiously is also a wise precaution, however much you may want to pop him one!

I never had any problem. A few times I wrote Leeds because thats where I built my yot. In Gib the trainee gorrilla (sorry customs official) was filling in the form and when he came to Port Of Registration he looked at the senior gorrilla and was told to write "SSR"
