A couple of weeks ago a rather... overexuberant... member of our club got a little too close to us, and caught one of the topmast shrouds as he passed, snapping the topmast whilst our boat was in her berth.

As well, we now have two broken lightboxes which were affixed to the shrouds. I've got them at home now, and whilst peering at them wondering if I should repair or remake them, I wondered why we have them. The lights themselves are bog standard sidelights with filters for ark, so why do we need the 2' long, 9" high boxes to which they're screwed?

Any light you can shed is appreciated as always

Your side lights are off the Ark ??

Traditional look? presumably a traditional style boat if it has a top mast.

That length to span the shrouds unless you mount them lower on the superstructure.

To reduce reflections ?
