Wow! I got blasted this morning by a American reader who said the photo that I used here the other day on my blog is pornographic, viewing it could lead to being fired, and it should come with a disclaimer.

Maybe it's a cultural thing. I didn't think this photo was pornographic. Do you?

(Can't work out how to post it up here directly, but will try again later.)

Elaine, YW

Not at all, very tasteful. I'll have a word with both their dads to let them know what their naughty sons are up to!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

That should amuse them both!!

perhaps the American was a mid-Wester, where women are few but the cows and sheep are very good looking, I'm told

By the way, with regard to 'iffy' boat names , I saw on the Medway last week' Master Bates'- didn't see the crew though, so can only surmise

I'm still trying to work out what [ QUOTE ]

Well, the poll does'nt work either. I don't like sites that throw things like that up cos if I'm browsing at work or at home I don't want colleagues or my daughters to see me with images like that on my screen. I also have friend who works in the civil service who had a couple of colleagues disciplined for visiting otherwise innocuous sites that had a couple of dodgy images. I do think there were perhaps other issues there, but it was the peg on which they hung the case. So I agree with your American reader

Have to say that I agree Jimi, I dont mind seeing it but readers at work/school could get in trouble, or even at home if kids are watching /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I wouldn't blast you but I'd be careful, just incase /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chris

P.S: the poll doesn't start until 12:00, not sure why people do that buy hey ho.

If you find a dodgy image I've posted, I'll apologise abjectly ..

He's right to be angered, but wrong in defining the image as pornographic. It isn't indecent by todays standards but it is inappropriate, as Jimi has said.

The photo is pornographic .. as it's posed to show a lovely pair - not for anything else.

using it in a text about daft name of a boat is not really supporting the text properly is it ...

Jimi is right ... there are various locations that a PC screen showing such a picture could lead to consequences ...

PS - The poll is rubbish as it is too restricted in possible answers ...

Any more of her ?? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Wait a minute. There is a great big red 'do not enter' graphic over the pic to signify there's more to it than tillitation - it's been modified for context. No?

Perhaps the size is a bit porno? Would something a bit smaller be more decent?

Sorry about the poll, I can't work out how to change it. It's my first time.

Given that there's nothing there you won't see by opening a copy of The Sun, or going to the beach in the summer, I hardly think it can be construed as pornographic ("liable to deprave or corrupt").

Personally, however, I think you should be shot for not knowing that the Ian Dury song is called "Plaistow Patricia". You have, however, got the opening line correct. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

For gods sake, they're only tits. We've all got them. Women's are generally a bit bumpier than men's, that's all. Presumably your abuser never looks at that great American insTITution, National Geographic. Nor at the Victoria's Secret catalogue. Nor at 15% of the output of Hollywood. And if he (I guess it's a he) really gets riled by that sort of thing, let him jet off to LA and tackle the real porn industry.

And as for the Sun (tits on page 3) getting all asterisky about it, who the **** are they trying to fool?

Yeah .. but I don't sit at my desk ar at home with p3 of the Sun open. Cos I know what it contains so I choose not to buy it. If Elaine's blog were to contain the warning that it contains images that may offend or may not be work friendly and open at your risk, then there is no argument

Nothing you couldnt see on the beach in the summer.Maybe you should avoid any conflict by only posting pictures of women correctly dressed?

A place for everything, and everything in its place. Wouldn't the Lounge be a more appropriate place for this kind of thing? I think it's fairly well known that standards are a little different there and that it might be better avoided in more sensitive work or social situations.

Pornographic? Probably, but, these days it would have to be considered very soft porn. Does that bring it into the realm of good taste? Probably not, IMO.

Anyone who has a significant problem with this entry on your blog needs to get out more and get a life in the real world - try going sailing. Elaine, I would not get too concerned about such comments from the USA. Any country which elects a government such as the one that they currently have in power has bigger problems that they should address as a matter of greater priority. Keep up the good work with the writings.

Oh, now Jimi surely you are coat-trailing. Even 'General' rated films are allowed to contain scenes of nudity these days.

A PG-13 rating in the US may 'contain violence, coarse language or sexually suggestive scenes, or any combination of them'. In the Uk, it's 14.

The pic I used was only midly sexually suggestive (if that) but I accept that perhaps I should have made it clear that my blog is 'not suitable for readers under 10'.

As to the workplace argument, well the photo does have a great big red circle and line through it so it's plain there's a bit more to it than just a photo of a woman's breasts. We've had topless shots in YW without any such modification, and no-one complained.

This is surely more about about what we are doing during our work time, than just what we are looking at.

That, and the widespread supposition that everyone secretly uses their computers to look at pornography.
