A friend has recomended POR-15 for my keels. Has anyone got any experience of this product? I plan to remove all the antifoul etc using either chemical stripper or a wire brush on a grinder then paint with POR-15 before antifouling.

Used it to patch some rust approx a year ago. Easy to use and not too expensive compared to epoxy and the like. Haven't had it our yet but I had it inspected by a diver who said it was all in good nick. So far looks good...

Many thanks, I am hoping to hear from someone who has lifted their boat out after a few years. At present my thinking is that POR-15 is not too expensive so I will go with that and if it does not do the job I will try something else next time. I have been looking at the web and I think I will order the full system, stripper, preparation and paint.

POR-15 is amazing stuff, I didn't use it on my keel because I was going to use Coppercoat and the manufacturer wouldn't guarantee that they were compatible so I used thier recommendation: Hycote 152LV.

Keel treatment is one of those subjects where every poster has a different opinion and advice. There are plenty of threads you can search for on these forums.

Good luck with the POR-15!

I seem to recall I read on a post (not pbo) that it is a bugger to remove,so try google it , something to do with car use.

I used it on a classic car chassis about 15 years ago. It's still there.
It is a bugger to get off, but why would you want to. That is what makes it so effevtive. It dries to a glass hard surface. It is too hard to be sanded like normal paint.
I did not prep well enough and had used Nitromos paint stripper to remove the previous paint and it bubbled a little. I sanded it flat where it showed with an orbital sander.

I've just ordered the POR-15 for my keels. The guy at Frost equipment was very helpfull and told me the stripper they sell is great for everything EXCEPT antifoul. All it does is polish it. Now I have to decide what to use for that.
