Poole Town Bridge?

Is anybody aware of whether the works on the bridge have been completed such that pedestrians can cross the bridge?

Thinking about visiting Poole and it will impact on whether we ask nicely for a berth at our preferred marina.

No. Latest guesstimate I saw was end of October. So berthing in PYC means a very long walk using the Twin Sails bridge. Alternative on the Hamworthy side is the small basin in the docks which has a water taxi to the quay, but not sure how often it runs. So the PHC haven on the quay is the only viable option if you are attracted by the fleshpots of downtown Poole.

Thanks, the issue for us was that most of the walk via the Twin Sails bridge into town is along a busy main road.

Yes, I know as I travel it almost daily. However the part from the docks roundabout to the traffic lights is only busy for short periods when there is a ferry in or at Sunseeker chucking out times and the footpath to the bridge is good. Never actually walked the route, but I guess it is 30-40 minutes compared with 10 minutes if the town bridge was open. Still the club bar is very pleasant!

Drove past it tonight and it actually looks nearly ready for the first time since the work started on it. The access roads are being cleared and the fencing and stuff that normally ends up lying around a works site is at least half gone.

Not according to Southern News tonight !

Sounded like a good few weeks yet; what with the potential snags inflicted by the SHT trying to make Studland a no go zone for visitors and resident boats - a lot of whom might be expected to go on to enter and spend their money in town - and their non response, now this farce, I have to wonder about Poole Chamber Of Commerce.

You appear to be completely right - http://www.brittanyferriesfreight.co.uk/article/57000/Poole-Bridge-Closure-Extended-to-November - don't be fooled by the link text, it actually says "

[h=1]Poole Bridge Closure Extended to December[/h]The major refurbishment of Poole Bridge has been further extended. Poole Bridge will remain closed until 15th December 2017. For access to and from the port, please follow the signs and use the (A350) Twin Sails Bridge.
Please allow extra time for your journey.

Poole Chamber of Trade and Commerce is basically an excuse for certain people to eat and drink on tax-deductible (or council) expenses, just like most UK Chamber of Commerces these days.

Yes, the bridge has been open to traffic for some time, although there are probably some residual works that need to be done. Its been a bit of a troubled project.

Been open about 4 weeks and generally things are back to normal although this week was not good because of roadworks in Blandford Road by the old Pilkingtons works. Really got caught yesterday with Twin Sails closed and knocking off time for Sunseeker!

Real test will come in the Summer if there are any daytime ferry sailings

And just when you thought it was all done, seems like the twin sails bridge is out of action from Monday 19th March for up to 7 days for 'maintenance'
