Poole mooring needed !

Hi, being new to the sport (about to purchase my first motor boat - probably a Maxum 2700SCR - an older one of course !), I was kniave enough to think that getting a mooring would be easy. I want to be in the Poole area of the south coast. I have approached Cobbs Quay who tell me there is a waiting list and i dont want to have the boat stored in steel racks and boat lifted in the water when i want to use it. I cant afford Salterns marina and lymington has an even bigger waiting list. I would prefer not to have to go further along the coast in an easterly direction. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated. I guess that a swinging mooring is possible and I would consider this option until a mooring becomes available at Cobbs Quay which is by far the easiest option for me.
Any suggestions or alternatives ?
Many thanks,
Mark

Why have you discounted the launch and recovery idea, would solve lots of problems, no anti fouling, no osmosis, less potential wear on the boat and probably cheaper.

Maybe think again?

I dry berth my boat in Poole (on steel racks), not at Cobbs Quay, and can thoroughly recommend it. Launching no problem, I just turn up, and usually afloat within 10 mins. Recovery at end of day similar, and can wash hull down and flush engine with fresh water.

As has been mentioned, no antifouling, hull stays like new and much lower maintenance costs, especially on stern drive.

Re: dry berthing

I've never come across this option for this sort of size, especially in the med. Is it available in Mallorca that you know of, or if not where. I'd be looking for 46', 12tonnes.

Re: dry berthing

It is quite new, largely brought about by the shortage of out-of season berths- in the season everyone buggers offf to other places, anchors out and so on.

Best bet is to buy a berth, (ahem advert I have one for sale) of course.

But for dry berthing I have a contact or two in S of France nr St Tropez if you plan to do this. No good if you plan to nip down for a day here and there - but if your boating is in chunks of a week or more, no problem up to 50 foot sportscruiser, 15 tons, they say. Nice clean bottom too, so none of the usual crud and barnacles by June or July.

So you' ll thrash everyone on the daily race out of the gulf of st tropez, round the two cardinals and south to anchor off Pampelonna beach. Last year this five mile run got so popular and needly that they have actually strung a line of bouys between the cardinals to stop short-cutters ripping the bottom of the boat off on the rocks.

I have also been looking for a mooring recently on the South Coast for my 25 footer, and found that they are like gold dust. Fortunately any that are available are for under 10m boats, and although you say you do not want to go East along the coast I was offered the choice of 6 berths at Ocean Village last week. I have taken up one of them, leaving 5. If you are interested the price for your 27' is £345 per metre.

la napoule, nr cannes. 20 mins by road from Nice airport, 5 mins by road from Cannes airport, closest port to the autoroute in S of France. I'm allowed to advertise cos it's less than 200 quid! Provided you use complex numbers and have a maths degree so that 1,080,000FFR is somehow less than 200quid.

If you dont mind being up the river towards wareham, give ridge wharf a call they have a few moorings or the enviroment agency have a few on the river, I know they have at least one, because i've just given mine up!

Thanks for the advice.
I did consider the racking system, but thought that I would really like to use the boat as a weekend place and that I would be likely to stay overnight most weekends. This is not an option in the racks. It is possible to get visitor moorings for the odd night, but this would discourage me stayingon the boat overnight and i think this is a big part of the fun of having a boat of this size. I guess its a bit like camping in a tent your garden when you were a kid !!
Apart from that, the advantages looks great. This is clearly a way to keep the boat in better condition and reduce maintenance costs. Incidentally, the yearly costs are identical.
Cheers
Mark.
