We are five Dubliners booked for the championship, last week of Sept. The ferry is booked, Rosslare to Pembroke. AA provides the driving instructions to Poole. Can you help with the following?

--Accommodation, preferably within walking distance from Parkstone Yacht Club, so we can drink in the club bar without worrying about breathalyser enroute home each night.

--Restaurants in Poole, some of us have advanced tastes and deep pockets.

--Important stuff:

--Tides in Poole Bay. We have HW and LW times, but need to know local info about currents, streams, eddies etc in race area which appears to be due south of Bournemouth, centred on 50.41N 001.53W

--Four and a half Nm from club marina to race area, what to expect at the narrow entrance to Poole Harbour?

--Any other useful info gratefully received.

--Oh yes, PYC website seeks volunteers for all night security patrols! Should we be alarmed?

>I'l try to help you as much as I can.

>I doubt I would be too far wrong to state that there are as >many hotels and B&Bs in Bournemouth and Poole as there >are in Ireland - I would try the web as your best bet .

>Can't help you there but I would try local knowledge when you get here

>Where you are going I would just use the standard Admiralty >Tidal charts . The only thing I would say on tides is hugging >the shore really tight to get out of contra tides . If I'm working >my way back in I use the depth sounder and GPS/ compass - >go in as far as you can - is slopes gently and then out until the >cog / wind turns against you.

--Four and a half Nm from club marina to race area, what to expect at the narrow entrance to Poole Harbour?

> If it s the weekend expect a LOT of chop from the mobos. As >sod's law states that the tide is always against you , to cheat >the tide in the channel which can run upto 5 Kns,keep right up >against the north side . You can get very close to the jetties ,I normally run along the 12foot contour, but watch out for the >chain ferry ramp - it doesn't extend that far out but watch out >for it.
>The chain ferry has PRIORITY . They are normally very good >but if people have pushed them too much they will just come >staight out .

--Any other useful info gratefully received.

> Yes! I work on the principle that if I haven't locked it away it will be removed for me.
